Daytime privacy is trickier to achieve than night-time privacy. As you want to enjoy natural light and maybe you have a great view from your window. If you prefer an external options awnings are also excellent at glare reduction and heat reduction.

Also consider plantation shutters or Venetian blinds – their tilting blades give you maximum control over light and sun so you can reduce the harshness of the light without going to full block out.

Solutions for heat control

With many windows facing either directly east or west, the best way to manage heat is to stop the sun’s rays from actually entering your home or business. You can still retain your beautiful view or let light in. There are lots of great options available depending on your priorities.
Awnings work best for keeping the heat from penetrating through glass. However If an external solution is not an option there are internal solutions.
Plantation shutters, lined curtains and lined roman blinds are the most heat effective solution. If wanting a fabric option remember that light colours do a better job of reflecting heat than dark. Look for fabrics with light backings, block out or sunscreens that are dark one side and light the other. The thicker the window covering, the better the thermal blanket.

Shutter panels can be fixed or hinged, sliding or bifold to suit windows or doors. They are stylish with a multitude of colour options to seamlessly integrate with your home. integrate with your home.

Solutions for easy maintenance

Keep life simple - Plantation shutters require only a gentle wipe down or dust and are the easiest window covering to look after. An occasional tightening of the screws attaching the handle to the louvres will avoid floppy louvre syndrome.
Roller and Roman blinds require some periodic dusting with the brush attachment on a vacuum. Small marks can be wiped away with a baby wipe or art eraser.
For an easy life, our pick is aluminium plantation shutters!

Venetian blinds are not the best choice if you want low maintenance window coverings. Neither are curtains, as they gather dust easily and are annoying to take up and down and pack off to the dry cleaners.

So for an easy life, our pick is plantation shutters!

Solutions for wet areas

Finish the wet areas of your house off with stylish planation shutters or a roller blind.

Even though bathrooms generally have frosted glass, a window covering completes the look and provides extra privacy, particularly at night.

Aluminium plantation shutters are very easy to clean and cope well with moisture or steam. We recommend simple hinged panels with split controls or a mid-rail to deliver good light and privacy control.

A sunscreen roller blind can soften the look of a window and if you select functional PVC, they are also very easy to clean.

Shutters or blinds also provide the perfect opportunity for a pop of colour to liven up the bathroom.

Solutions for sliding doors

Sliding plantation shutters are ideal for sliding doors. For greater privacy they work well for sliding doors. They are not the most suitable option for stacking doors, as the system becomes too bulky.

Roller blinds are great for sliding doorways, as they allow free flow whilst the doors are in use with blinds retracted. Blinds can be linked together across multiple doorways to minimise chains.
Pull the blinds down to protect against the early morning or late afternoon glare. In the evening, a colourful blind adds texture and warmth to your room. While roller blinds almost disappear when they’re up, you can make a feature of them with a matching or contrasting pelmet.

For greater privacy, sliding plantation shutters work well for sliding doors. They don’t work well on stacking doors, as the system becomes too bulky. Our pick is roller blinds for stacking doors.
